Story
After waking up from a month-long coma due to injuries sustained in a rash, heated investigation, detective Yashiro Tomo quickly returns to work at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. She is ordered to transfer from the First Investigative Division’s Violent Crimes Unit to the Sixth Special Investigations Unit. Located in the dimly-lit basement, it is in charge of deciphering documents of unsolved cases. Despite Tomo’s bewilderment, she begins work in her new post along with a brusque senior detective Narumi Risa who is called the expert of document deciphering for her unusual ability to predict the personality and thoughts of a writer from documents. However, the reality is that this kind of work is nothing more than that of a “storekeeper” of investigation materials. At this moment, the detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit take the notes left by two women who were victims in a string of bizarre deaths that just took place the other day, to Risa. Risa immediately analyses the criminal’s profile and motive. However, the Violent Crimes Unit is skeptical. Then new information is brought to the Sixth Special Investigations Unit. The rooms of each of the two female victims had mystery writer Shimano Izumi’s autographed book dated 10 years earlier. In fact, Izumi was stabbed in the abdomen and died in her house10 years ago even though it was locked from the inside. The investigation ended without a suspect, let alone solve the mystery of the locked room. Tomo is fired up after hearing the situation. She proposes a joint re-investigation of the case to her ex-colleagues. Risa watches Tomo’s enthusiasm with a cold look. However, Tomo hears a deduction through legwork and shows interest … …

Characters
Haru as Yashiro Tomo
A detective of the Sixth Special Investigations Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Rank: Sergeant. She adored detectives in detective dramas since young and became a police officer after she graduated from high school. She inherited the physical strength of her father who is a karate practitioner and is confident in jujitsu. She used to belong to the First Investigative Division’s Violent Crimes Unit and was on the frontline of criminal investigations. She tends to act without thinking and was often called a simple fool by her superiors. However, she believes this is her calling. But one day, she sustained a serious injury as a result of a rash, heated investigation. When she returned to the workplace after miraculously surviving the incident, she was transferred to the Sixth Special Investigations Unit. She has been poor at writing reports all this while, but pursues the truth of unsolved cases based on the clues which her boss Narumi Risa finds from the large volume of investigation materials. She is unable to suddenly believe in Risa’s deductions and pushes back. However, she eventually begins to realise how interesting it is to solve mysteries with words as clues.

Suzuki Kyoka as Narumi Risa
A detective of the Sixth Special Investigations Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Rank: Assistant Inspector. She possesses the rare ability to guess the personality and thoughts of the writer from a few documents. She boats that she loves words more than people and holes up in the unit’s document room in the basement. She is called the “witch storekeeper” by the people around her. She joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department with the encouragement of her grandfather who was a detective. Howver, she is not good at interpersonal relationships and ended up moving from unit to unit. Just as she was stagnating, she was selected to be a senior staff in the newly established Sixth Special Investigations Unit. She finds ways to make a break through for investigations of cold cases by deciphering documents. At the same time, she also frequently surprises the people around her with psychological terms and offbeat reasoning derived from them. She always seems composed but she has a cute side too when she gets terribly shaken when the unexpected happens.

Sawamura Ikki as Koga Kiyonari
The head of the Special Investigations Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Rank: Superintendent. He manages all six special investigations units which specialise in unsolved crimes. He is an upstart who worked his way up and is extremely proud as a detective. He was originally the head of the First Investigative Division’s Violent Crimes Unit but her was selected to be the head of the Special Investigations Unit to shore it up. However, he is filled with the sense of humiliation of someone put out to pasture. He is driven to achieve results and get back to the First Investigative Division’s star unit, and always shouts at his subordinates. He particularly hates the Sixth Special Investigations Unit which he considers to be unnecessary and constantly chastises Yashiro Tomo with great sarcasm that borders on immature. He and Narumi Risa seem to have had a connection in the past, but … …

Takada Junji as Giitsu Yoshinobu
The head of the Sixth Special Investigations Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Rank: Inspector. The direct superior of Yashiro Tomo, Narumi Risa and Kusaka Shinji. He is a good-natured man and skillfully unifies the members of the unit who have very different personalities. Although it is hard to tell what he is thinking about, he is in fact sharp and eloquent. He is even respected by his boss, the sarcastic Koga Kiyonari. He avoids the complaints from other units which express displeasure with the Sixth Special Investigations Unit and becomes a bulwark for his subordinates. He picked out Risa for her talent and is the one who thought of making the two of them partners. However, he is a hen-pecked husband at home.

Mitsuishi Ken as Kawanabe Takashi
The head of the Third Violent Crimes Unit Fifth Homicide Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. He was Yashiro Tomo’s former boss. An ace detective in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s star unit. Every time he runs into the members of the special investigations units at crime scenes, he finds them an eyesore. On the other hand, he occasionally makes use of Narumi Risa’s document deciphering skills to advance investigations.

Endo Kenichi as Kusaka Shinji
A senior staff of the Sixth Special Investigations Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Rank: Assistant Inspector. He is honest to a fault, serious and very taciturn. He was a detective willing to use his legs and had a lot of patience in investigations. However, after he was transferred to the Sixth Special Investigations Unit, he seldom went out to crime scenes and mainly moved document boxes. He is called the “Frankenstein storekeeper”. But after Yashiro Tomo is transferred to the unit, his passionate “pilgrim detective” with documents as a weapon is revived and he trains Tomo eagerly. He used to be overzealous in investigations that his wife and child ran away. He secretly has feelings for Narumi Risa.

He brims with masculinity and is a popular “ideal boss” with both males and females. However, he is actually gay. He stores photos of Haruta that he had secretly taken and suppresses his desires. But eventually caves in. He comes on to Haruta after deciding that he wants to be honest about his own feelings and divorce after being married for a long time. He tries to come out to his wife Choko but … … He maintains a stern personality at work but shows a girlish side to Haruta.

Hayashi Kento as Maki Ryota
Haruta Soichi’s junior. An employee who has transferred from the headquarters of Tenkuu Real Estate to its sales office. He has worked for the company for four years. He is highly educated, handsome and popular with female colleagues. However, he is gay. He learns that Kurosawa Musashi has made a move on Haruta which spurs his own coming out. His personality and interests are masculine and he is rather sadistic. He typically uses honorific expressions and has the manner of a thoughtful, polite junior. However, there are occasions when he shows a black face. He is an all-rounder. He is meddlesome like a mother and lets Haruta live comfortably.

Uchida Rio as Arai Chizu
Haruta Soichi’s childhood friend. The poster girl for Izakaya Wandabo. Her parents’ home is next to Haruta Soichi’s. She is single and does not have a boyfriend now. She has a frank personality and is ambitious. She punched a client in a high position who sexually harassed her at a drinking session, and resigned from her company. She is currently in the process of finding a new job. Like Haruta, she has lived with her parents for a long time. She is slovenly and hates housework. She thinks there is no harm in getting married to a handsome butler who can do all household chores and honestly does not see the merits of married life. She dismisses the good-for-nothing Haruta. However, a sudden rival emerges and she learns that that person is a guy.

Otsuka Nene as Kurosawa Choko
Kurosawa Musashi’s wife. They have never quarreled in the 30 years they have been married. However, right after their 30th wedding anniversary, he unexpectedly broaches divorce. She does not know the reason and is astounded. Presuming that he must be having an affair, she nonchalantly visits his workplace in an attempt to identify the other party and poke around. But soon learns that her husband of 30 years is gay … …

He obtains Saori’s permission and begins to investigate on his own. However, the people connected to the case begin to die mysterious, one after another.
