Story
In the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate, Takechi Hanpeita, a samurai of Tosa domain who played a central role in campaigning for the expulsion of foreigners, was ordered to commit ritual suicide by disembowelment. He was supposed to have left his beloved wife and journeyed from this world … … But when he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a completely unfamiliar place. Or rather it is visibly different from the nether world with an amazing scenery beyond Hanpeita’s imagination stretches out before him. He has unwittingly travelled 150 years in time from the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate to present day Japan. He is bewildered by everything he sees from cars coming and going at furious speeds to modern young people in outfits like bandits. It is all incomprehensible to him. Hanpeita creates a commotion at a supermarket he wanders into and ends up being pursued by Saeki Haruka, an employee of the village office who received a report, and the police. He happens to take refuge in front of the private school that former elementary school principal Saeki Makoto runs. A man of integrity, Saeki perceives Hanpeita’s honest character and entrusts him with the role of the school’s part-time teacher. Becoming a teacher in a village in the remote countryside through an unexpected turn of events, this stiff teacher dressed as a samurai with a top knot, communicates with the children and solves all kinds of problems with methods unique to a samurai. Then one day, he is reunited with his good friend Sakamoto Ryoma, who quickly adjusted to modern times after travelling in time to the present slightly before him, and lives in Tokyo as a journalist called Narasaki.
