Synopsis: At the merchant town of Osaka Tenma, Matsuyoshi (Hayashi Kento) loses his father, a former samurai, in an act of revenge. Just as he is also on the verge of being attacked, he is rescued by Wasuke (Tsugawa Masahiko) who happened to be present. Wasuke, the owner of a gelatin wholesale store called Igawaya, had saved him with precious silver currency which had been scraped together to rebuild the Tenmangu which was burnt down in a great fire. In order to survive, Matsuyoshi becomes an apprentice at Igawaya. However, his heart wavers over going the way of a merchant … … Wasuke and his clerk Zenjiro (Shiomi Sansei) are strict in training and disciplining Matsuyoshi as a merchant. Matsuyoshi slowly embarks on the path of a merchant and grows up as he overcomes various incidents concerning the reputation of the small gelatin wholesale store. He also develops a crush on Maho (Matsuoka Mayu), the daughter of a customer. With the support of Maho and other good-hearted people, he aspires to create a new gelatin, but a great fire strikes the town once again.
