Synopsis: Norizuki Rintaro (Hasegawa Hiroki) is a struggling mystery writer with knowledge of crimes and tricks of all ages and cultures, a brilliant mind and sharp reasoning skills. At times, he even works together with his father Superintendent Norizuki Sadao (Okuda Eiji) to investigate the difficult cases of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Although Rintaro is usually outgoing, gentlemanly and upbeat, he becomes completely uncompromising and relentless when deducing something. He believes in justice and cannot forgive crimes and suspects who try to conceal their deeds. One day, a kidnapping occurs in a residential neighbourhood. Kazumi (Tomita Yasuko), the wife of a real estate company’s managing director, Yamakura Shiro (Ihara Tsuyoshi), gets a ransom demand. However, their son Takashi was at home. Then she receives a phone call from a neighbour, Tomizawa Michiko (Yada Akiko). The kidnapped child is not Takashi, but his classmate Shigeru. It is a tragic case of mistaken identity and the wrong child was taken away. Yamakura goes to drop off the ransom, but fails to make contact with the kidnapper who detected the presence of police. In the end, Shigeru is found dead. The First Investigative Division sets up a task force under Sadao to hunt for the ruthless criminal. However, the investigation makes little headway. How did the mistaken identity occur for a kidnapping that was well planned? Takashi’s biological father Miura Yasushi (Namioka Kazuki), who is Kazumi’s younger brother-in-law, eventually emerges as a suspect from the car number plate. But he has an ironclad alibi. He had been with Rintaro the whole time. Rintaro sets out to solve the case. Then another murder of a related person takes place … …
