Synopsis: Tominaga Shinichi (Tamaki Hiroshi), an up-and-coming public prosecutor who gained prominence in a child abduction case, is selected for the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office’s Special Investigation Department. Shortly after he takes up his new post, he is ordered by deputy chief Hase Kiichi (Okuda Eiji) to arrest the powerful politician Tachibana Yohei (Nakadai Tatsuya) who is called the “Don of Nagata-cho”. Tominaga obtains the assistance of administrative officer Igarashi Tetsuo (Hagiwara Masato) and proceeds to investigate illegal political donations involving Tachibana. Meanwhile, a notebook in which a list of secret funds are recorded, is discovered in the residence of Hongo Goro, the president of a civil engineering company in Gunma Prefecture. Hongo who is believed to have been garnering construction industry votes from local municipal, prefectural assembly to Diet members, commits suicide the day after the notebook is seized. Tominaga tries to question Hongo’s wife Tokiko (Kusabue Mitsuko), but the strong-willed woman is curt. One day, Tominaga receives a cryptic message from his good friend Kondo Samon (Suzuki Kosuke). Kondo is a career bureaucrat in charge of space exploration in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. However, he disappears after entrusting Tominaga with a message about a bribery scandal related to this space exploration. The connection that the powerful politician has to these two cases starts to become obvious. At the aerospace exploration centre, Hattanda Haruka (Aibu Saki), who has fulfilled her childhood dream to become a researcher, is working on rocket development under Professor Terajima Kotaro (Katsumura Masanobu), the man leading Japan’s space exploration. However, she has to gradually face the harsh reality in budget meetings with the chief cabinet secretary Nakae Nobutsuna (Nishimura Masahiko) and others. Then one day, Haruka finds suspicious traces of the operational log of a computer full of classified information and learns some unexpected facts. In an attempt to confide the truth, she gets in touch with Tominaga whom she had become acquainted with when he visited the centre to investigate, but … …
