Story
Tomikawa Yosuke, the head of human resource at major steel company, Nippon Tekko Kinzoku, has the unenviable role of recruiting new graduates and advising on layoffs. A promotion to be a member of the board is close at hand. His wife Mizuki has also been sounded out about an extension of her employment at the private junior high school where she teaches Japanese language, and they decide to buy a home. As Tomikawa continues the recruitment interviews of students day after day, he is approached by the head of general affairs Watabiki, who joined the company at the same time as himself, about hiring the son of the president of an influential client. Watabiki urges him to earn the favour of the senior management, but the honest Tomikawa completely refuses to listen to him and says the selection of candidates will be done fairly. One day, a student comes to Tomikawa and tells him, “You told me that no company requires someone like me, but I’ve received job offers from five companies. Please let me take this company’s interview again.” But he refuses, calling it an impossible arrangement. The student watches Tomikawa quickly leave with a telling expression on his face. On the other hand, the layoff advisory also does not go down well. A female employee Kawamura Yuko, who is going to be retrenched, beseeches Tomikawa to let her remain in the company. Although he withholds his reply, this incident leads to an unexpected situation later on. At this moment, Tomikawa is not the only one in the family who has a problem. So do Mizuki, their daughter Shiori and son Hikaru. Hikaru, a third-year university student, is looking for a job. But there is no indication that he will be able to get any job offers. His mother sees him come out of a host club downtown and feels shaken. His older sister Shiori works for a jewellery maker and worries about sexual harassment at her company every day. One day, Tomikawa discovers that the student he had turned away the other day is the son of a bank president who is a business connection. He receives an order from his company president Matoba to let the young man join the company no matter what it takes. Shocking reality swoops in on not just Tomikawa, but also Mizuki and their two children. It completely changes their family life. The bonds of this seemingly peaceful family start to fall apart and each of them take a tumble.
