Story
Nakano Hitomi is an ordinary employee who works for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s General Affairs Section. Her job is to check receipts for investigation expenses that the detectives pay in advance. Although it is unrelated to investigations, she is extremely sharp in detecting cases because she was raised by her father who is a swindler. One day, Hitomi makes the acquaintance of detective Togawa Takeshi of the First Investigative Division after finding discrepancies in his receipts. Two seemingly unrelated murders have taken place. But a letter written with the names of the two victims is sent to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and hints at a third murder. Togawa and the other detectives have been mobilised to investigate. Stealing a glance at Togawa’s notebook, Hitomi is the first to realise that the names of the victims in the serial killings are linked to a word game in which one victim’s name contains the last character of the name of the previous victim. So she predicts that the next victim’s name is Goto. Right after that a woman named Goto Akiko is found unconscious and the police gets another letter. Akiko’s name has been added and the fourth victim is marked with “?” Hitomi uses Togawa and the scheming lawyer Shirai Shinnosuke, who works his way into the favour of victims to find work that pays well, to get close to the truth of the case.

Characters
Komatsu Nana as Nakano Hitomi
A general employee of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s General Affairs Section. Because she was raised by her swindler father, she is knowledgeable about crime. She makes use of detective Togawa Takeshi whose acquaintance she made as a result of discrepancies in his receipts, to obtain investigation information and helps to solve difficult cases with precise deductions.

Yamamoto Koji as Shirai Shinnosuke
A devious lawyer who looks for work that pays well and trumps up cases. He accepts unethical requests and does not get any penny in the end. His office rent is overdue and he is being pressed with eviction.

Koide Keisuke as Togawa Takeshi
A detective of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. He may be more righteous than anyone else, but there are many discrepancies in his receipts because he is bad at paperwork. He gets Nakano Hitomi peering at his investigation notes and his partner Kuroiwa Sokichi pushing the blame on him.

Kinoshita Houka as Kuroiwa Sokichi
Togawa Takeshi’s partner. He puts Togawa in a difficult position because of his attitude that “my mistake is Togawa’s and Togawa’s achievements are mine”.

Kitaro as Tomura
Nakano Hitomi’s boss. The head of the General Affairs Section. He likes nothing better than the tea that Hitomi makes at 3 pm.

Horibe Keisuke as Aono
The director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. Besides taking charge of cases, he also has to be present when politicians are questioned.

Owada Shinya as Takakura Shun
The head of criminal investigations. He listens to anything that Nakano Hitomi requests because she has some dirt on him.
