Story
38-year-old Tomioka Yuji is a bachelor who has no friends and has never dated a woman. He works the night shift as a security guard at a supermarket. He has doubts and anxiety about his daily life, and reminds himself that loneliness is a crime. One night, during a shooting star, he wishes for a friend. But the person who shows up in front of him is his enigmatic neighbor, Hada Azusa, who falls in love with him at first sight. Tomioka is the weakest man who is completely oblivious to her feelings. Then the appearance of a homeless man who calls himself a lifelong drifter and a mysterious letter with the message “You’ll lose your mind within a year and die” completely changes Tomioka’s life … …

Arita Teppei as Tomioka Yuji
A security guard who works the night shift at a shopping centre. His hobby is listening to the radio and he loves rock. One day, he suddenly realises that he has had no friends in his 38 years. Just as he is bothered by an anxiety beyond words, he receives a letter with the message “You’ll lose your mind within a year and die” and he lives his days in fear. Through his contact with his neighbour Hada Azusa and juniors Hanabayashi Yudai, Amekawa Yu at his workplace, a kindness to others which had been dormant within him begins to grow. But he gets caught up in all sorts of trouble and incidents because of this kindness.
Honda Tsubasa as Hada Azusa
A web writer and aspiring novelist who lives next door to Tomioka Yuji apartment. She is very pretty but slightly eccentric. When she was a child she liked the man like a joker in playing cards, and she meets and falls in love with Tomioka who has the face of the joker. She eavesdrops and peeps into Tomioka’s apartment and tries to get him to turn around with all sorts of tactics but he does not quite notice her.
Kaku Kento as Hanabayashi Yudai
An ambitious and confident young man who is unusually high strung and gets into people’s personal space. He is the first subordinate that Tomioka Yuji has had. He is unexpectedly obedient to Tomioka but gets into arguments with Amekawa Yu over almost everything. He came to Tokyo to find the “dream woman” who has appeared in his dreams several times but whom he has never met, and aims to have a real life with her.

Like Hanabayashi Yudai, he is the first subordinate that Tomioka Yuji has had. He has never dated. He is deeply in love with Yoshioka Hana who is the mistress of a gangster. He became a security guard at the supermarket where Tomioka works, just so that he can sneak looks at her apartment. He decides to steal a gangster’s safe at Hana’s request because he wants to save her. However, this gets him involved in all sorts of incidents … …
Mitsuishi Ken as Homeless man
His real name is not known. He used to be a chef but destroyed his own life by gambling. He is a drifter whose lifelong dream is to turn his life around and bets a year’s worth of salary on winning the lottery in his first try. He approaches Tomioka Yuji to give him information on the sender of that mysterious letter and comes to live with Tomioka. But he is discovered to have close to 3 million yen in debt.
