Synopsis: Police officer Enami Atsushi (Terajima Susumu) is stationed in Mizune, Okutama. He used to be a detective in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. However, while he was investigating a case that he was in charge of, a material witness (Sugimoto Aya) committed suicide by taking poison and he got demoted. It is the fourth summer since Enami took up this position and now he is well-loved and called Chuzai-san by the locals. One evening, he is summoned by a mountain guide Ikehara Takao (Suzunosuke) and heads to Okutama Mountain Guide Centre. Mountaineering equipment have gone missing. The person who stole it is Mita Hiroki (Kobayashi Kika) from the youth mountaineering club which has come for a training camp. He confides in Enami that he had taken the equipment out because he wants to climb the classic route of Mt Yarigatake which is grueling even for adults. But there is a reason for that … … Ikehara Miyako (Ichige Yoshie), the proprietress of an established traditional Japanese inn, and Hanekawa Yuichi (Iida Kisuke), the deputy CEO of Sanrei, an outdoor gear manufacturer, are waiting at the police box for Enami’s return. A guest of the inn Gondo Norio (Oura Ryuichi) has not come back from the forest. Gondo is in charge of an ongoing large-scale Sanrei project to develop a leisure spot called Sanrei no Mori in Mizune. However, Enami, Miyako and Hanekawa immediately head to the forest only to discover Gondo has been bludgeoned to death.
