Story
Three gentlemen, two ladies, the private eye Ukai Morio and Inspector Sunagawa are at a mansion. Ukai is in the middle of solving a murder mystery right now. He skillfully exposes the crime by one of the gentlemen and is spot on about his clever trick. Cornered by Ukai, a look of resignation comes over the gentleman and he starts to reveal the sad past that triggered his criminal act. However, Ukai tosses these words at him, “Ah, nevermind about that. I’m the type who doesn’t listen to this” and leaves briskly. Sunagawa cheerfully puts the handcuffs on the gentleman whose cries about being arrested immediately without allowing him to speak of his motivation for the crime echoes inside the mansion. Ukai only cares about solving mysteries. Furthermore, he is a peculiar private eye who would only investigate infidelity and search for the lost dogs and cats of celebrities rather than unprofitable murder cases. Ukai unexpectedly receives a leaflet for office rental at 10,000 yen a month. Although he does not believe this very extraordinary price, he gives it a try and visits the building. The building’s owner Ninomiya Akemi is there. She is a young lady quite unlike his image of a building owner. In the face of Akemi’s confirmation that the rent will be 10,000 yen, Ukai ends up moving his private investigation agency to her building. On the day of the move, Akemi arrives at his office with hikkoshi soba and he gets an “unpleasant feeling” about her. One day, a woman falls to her death in Ikagawa City. Ryuhei who was watching a DVD at the home of his university senior Kosaku while babbling over his drink, has no idea that this woman is his former girlfriend. On top of that, Kosaku is murdered by someone in the bathroom while taking a bath. It happened behind closed doors since the house had been locked and latched from the inside. Ryuhei panics that he will end up becoming the murder suspect but … … At this moment, Ukai is at the scene where the woman fell to her death. Akemi is with him for some reason. In fact, Akemi is the ultimate mystery buff. She immediately notices a stab wound on the back when she sees the dead body, and deduces that this is a murder case. Ukai is dumbfounded by the expressions characteristic of a mystery buff and her excitement to be at a crime scene. They return to his office for now. Then Ryuhei comes by. He talks about Kosaku being murdered in the bathroom and begs them to help. Ukai visits Kosaku’s home, and Akemi follows him once again. She meticulously inspects the scene but cannot find evidence that can prove Ryuhei’s innocence. Ukai declares that he will do his best for the sake of his client but despite these words, Ryuhei is arrested … …
