Synopsis: Soya Hideko (Wakui Emi) is a housewife who leads an ordinary life in the town of Kiso in Nagano Prefecture with her husband Hiroshi (Aijima Kazuyuki) and father-in-law Kazuo (Akino Taisaku). In an unexpected turn of events, Hideko who just does not know what to do with her little spare time, receives a request for her to work at the local astronomical observatory in Kiso. She has never visited an observatory or associated with the people before this. At the observatory is the handsome, up-and-coming young scientist Isaka Teruo (Daito Shunsuke), who looks like he is fooling away, but has in fact been observing the starlit sky every night to capture the world’s first supernova shock breakout. Then there are the slightly eccentric technical personnel Nakata, Sugiyama and Watanabe (Kajihara Zen, Tanaka Joji, Minagawa Sarutoki) who maintain the telescope and things. The trio are always together and get excited about talk that only they understand. Hideko is initially bewildered by the work at the observatory. But she soon starts to have her eyes opened to the fascinating starry sky. Her strange and vaguely interesting exchanges with the researchers as well as her encounters with a world she had not known until now, slowly bring about changes in what should have been an ordinary life.
