Synopsis: Haruta Hideo (Kawano Taro), the mayor of Hokkaido’s Kitaura City, disappears while on an official trip to Tokyo. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division is asked by the Kitaura City Assembly to search for him. Inspector Tashiro Shunichiro (Murakami Hiroaki) is put in charge. Haruta had come to Tokyo to with secretary Arishima Sumie (Suzuki Honami) and other members of the city assembly to lobby the relevant ministries and agencies for approval of a harbour expansion plan. However, the last time he was seen was five days ago when Sumie sent him to his hotel. Meanwhile, it turns out that Hayakawa Junji (Omi Toshinori), a member of the city assembly’s reformist faction opposed to the harbour expansion, had also come to Tokyo in secret. Fukushima (Terada Minori), the president of the city assembly, and others speculate that Hayakawa could have murdered Haruta since he has been quite against his political rival’s policies all along. Haruta’s younger brother Yuji (Katsumura Masanobu) rushes over from Hokkaido on behalf of Haruta’s wife Michiko (Yada Akiko), wanting to believe that Haruta is still alive. Tashiro investigates with his subordinates Okamoto Kazuya (Hiraoka Yuta) and Aoki Natsumi (Tanaka Michiko) but still cannot get a hold of Hayakawa’s whereabouts. Furthermore, Sumie’s continuous inexplicable solitary actions makes Tashiro grow suspicious. Then Haruta’s body is found in a wooded area in Tokyo’s Hino City. It is believed that he was strangled to death within a day or two after his disappearance. His necktie and wallet are missing. Even Inspector Komori Shuji (Jinnai Takanori) and the prefectural police from Haruta’s hometown of Hokkaido have proceeded with an investigation. As all sorts of motives mix with love and hate, Haruta’s murderer becomes clear with a shocking trick and unexpected twist.
