Synopsis: Sugi Shinya (Aiba Masaki) is a young man who works as a water metre reader even though he is a qualified architect. He has a painful past that he has not been able to tell anyone. When he was 15, he lost both parents and home. Several years later, his dearest elder sister suddenly died of illness, leaving him all alone in this world. Shinya lost sight of his goals and withdrew into himself. At this time, he was invited by a friend to visit Tachibana, a shop that specialises in rice balls. That is where he meets the shop owner Tachibana Kaoru (Sakamoto Fuyumi) who looks very much like his late sister. Several days later, Shinya encounters Uchida Chiaki (Ueto Aya), whom he had seen at the shop, when he comes to do water metre readings at an apartment building. Kaoru believes rice balls help her form connections with people. Because of her meddlesome nature, Kaoru gets involved with her customers (Nakano Taiga, Enari Kazuki, Kadono Takuzo, Nakada Yoshiko, Nomura Mami, Fujita Tomoko, Kobayashi Ayako), who each have their own circumstances, and makes them smile in spite of themselves. Shinya gradually opens up to her and her employee Fujimori Satomi (Ichiro Maki) and begins to frequent the shop. His exchanges with her many regulars help to set him free. Then one day, he spots a suspicious-looking man (Funakoshi Eiichiro) hanging around in front of Tachibana.
