Synopsis
Before Kazama Kimichika took up his role as an instructor at the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s police academy, he supervised the training of rookie detectives. One of them was uniformed police officer Urihara Junji from the Community Affairs Division who arrested a criminal and won the precinct chief’s award. He was ordered by the First Investigation Division’s Coordinating Director Shindo Takeshi to transfer over and wait for Kazama to contact him. Through a training system called Kazama Dojo, inexperienced young detectives would suddenly be paired with Kazama and taught critical detective skills through the investigation of actual murder cases. Crime scenes are the classroom in on-the-job training. Kazama sees the truth faster than anyone else. By urging the junior detectives to think for themselves, they arrive at the answers and eventually graduate from Kazama Dojo one by one. It will also become clear how Kazama became such a merciless person.
Characters
Kimura Takuya as Kazama Kimichika
An instructor of detectives at Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s Violent Crimes Section. He teams up with young inexperienced detectives and puts them through Kazama Dojo, a training system that makes them learn detective skills by investigating actual murder cases. This form of on-the-job training tests and drills them on the fundamentals of investigation. By urging the younger detectives to think for themselves, he guides them to solve cases, and at the same time, he occasionally perceives their secrets and troubles.
Akaso Eiji as Urihara Junji
A rookie detective who arrested a habitual burglar while he was a police officer at the Community Affairs Division and was ordered to transfer to Kazama Dojo to learn criminal investigation. He does not pay attention to his personal appearance and his hair is always a mess. Because he is easily stressed, he always gets stomachaches when learning under Kazama Kimichika on the frontline of murder cases. He has a kind heart and uses his own investigation methods to understand a suspect even in Kazama’s presence. However, that is not of much use at murder scenes and he gets scorned by suspects. After he makes a crucial mistake, Kazama tells him that in some cases it is important to nurture the investigation abilities of the next generation even if one criminal gets away. He cannot comprehend those words and sometimes clashes with him but eventually begins to understand the true significance of Kazama’s teachings.
Aragaki Yui as Hayata Seiko
A rookie detective who is a single mother with a daughter in fourth grade in elementary school. However, she worries about her detective work and life with her daughter. She would ask Kazama Kimichika about the doubts she has at a crime scene but he wants her to think for herself and come up with the answers. And so, she investigates the case while feeling his cold gaze and pressure that he may already have the answers. She cannot bring herself to say that her daughter is at home waiting for her, and she frantically investigates. However, her inability to complain to anyone later backfires … …
Kitamura Takumi as Tono Akihiro
A rookie detective who transferred from the police box where he worked to Kazama Dojo at the recommendation of the headmaster of the police academy. While he lacks physical strength, the police around him are surprised that he has the brains to get close to the answers with the right investigation methods. Even Kazama Kimichika acknowledges his ability but tells him something is missing. However, he is attacked while pursuing a criminal with Kazama and ends up seriously injured.
Shiraishi Mai as Kanera Michiko
A rookie detective who is transferred to Kazama Dojo from a police precinct. At the precinct, she gained a certain reputation for her contributions to solving cases. She is good at conducting interviews at a crime scene and deciphering the relationships that the deceased had with the people around them through the information obtained from those connected to the case. She has the ability to perceive the subtleties of love between a man and a woman and considering what kind of relationship they have. While her intuition has helped her to solve cases, she has relationship problems with the man she is dating. She never shows Kazama Kimichika the problems in her personal life when she is working. However, there is some circumstances that he must not know … …
Sometani Shota as Nakagome Kenji
A rookie detective who was a detective at the violent crimes unit of a police precinct but he was ordered to transfer to Kazama Dojo because of his violence and bad conduct when dealing with suspects. He also acts and responds impudently to Kazama Kimichika’s questions and even clicks his tongue. At home, he and his wife take care of his mother who is prematurely senile. He is exhausted from taking care of her and is constantly in a prickly mood at work probably because of this stress. Eventually, Kazama begins to probe his issues at home and problematic behaviour during his time at the precinct. However, there is much more to his disturbed state of mind.
Hotta Mayu as Igami Yukiha
