Story
Yanagi Kenta inherited his parents’ cleaning business. Three years ago, he resigned from the major chemical manufacturer he worked at for a long time and divorced his wife Saeko too. As soon as Kenta opens the laundry shop’s roller shutters, he receives a complaint from a regular customer standing on the threshold. Not knowing how he should respond, he is at his wits end when a part-time employee called Yan, who has been with the business since his parents time, arrives and deals with the complaint skillfully. One day, a postcard with the words “Junior High School 34th Class Reunion” printed on it is delivered. It is the first class reunion in 25 years. Kenta’s recollection is of Kamakura Akehi whom he dated for just a few months during junior high school. On the day of the class reunion, he searches the venue for a glimpse of her. That is when Sakurai Ryosuke calls out to him. Kenta has not seen Ryosuke since a friend’s wedding some 10 years ago. When he slowing walks among his former schoolmates, he finds Hirono Kaoruko. Then, the lights suddenly go out and the venue becomes dark. Photos from junior high school days are projected onto a screen. Kenta feels nostalgic. As the lights come back on amid applause, Akehi greets him with her usual smile. The two of them gaze at each other … … The class reunion comes to an end. While the participants are leaving in groups of twos and threes, Ryosuke asks them to an after-party at a pub. It turns out to be an after-party with only Kenta, Akehi, Kaoruko and Ryosuke. However, as they introduce themselves anew and Akehi learns about Kenta’s divorce, she declares that she should have waited for him if that were the case. This throws Kenta off balance. At Ryosuke’s suggestion, they make a promise to hold the birthday celebrations of their form teacher Samejima Hideaki in class and the after-party breaks up. Kenta and Ryosuke adjourn for drinks. Ryosuke who has had no shortage of women despite marriage suddenly says he wants true love. Then he tells Kenta that Akehi meant what she said and eggs him on. However, Kenta denies this in all seriousness for it would be an affair to Akehi. At that moment, Akehi has returned home and shrinks away from her sullen husband, Taro. She seems to be happy with three children, but … …. On another day, Akehi deliberately takes the train and brings laundry to Kenta’s shop. Kenta is invited by Akehi to go and see their junior high school, and asked something unexpected while they are there. Back when Kenta, Akehi, Kaoruko and Ryosuke of them met at 15, it was the most beautiful time of their lives because life held enormous possibilities. As if in an effort to make up for lost time, they are rapidly drawn to each other. Kenta begins to realise Akehi’s importance to him while Akehi also starts to defy the violent Taro. Meanwhile, Ryosuke and Kaoruko surrender to their mutual passions, but a gap in their feelings arises little by little. They want to take off with the true love they have found in adulthood. A reality that will not be allowed. The four of them are now 40 years old. They are no longer young, but there is still time for them to start over again. They single-mindedly and earnestly live for this moment, but … …
