Story
A 10-part omnibus drama by 10 different scriptwriters and 10 groups of actors on the theme of fathers and their sons and daughters.
Episode 1: Kei-san to Hitomiko-san

Story: Higuchi Keitaro (Tamura Masakazu) and his only daughter Hitomiko (Matsu Takako) live together in an old but well-tended house in the outskirts of Tokyo. Keitaro runs a small lighting shop which deals in one of a kind lighting fixtures. Because his wife passed away when Hitomiko was an elementary school student, he brought her up single-handedly. They call each other Kei-san and Hitomiko-san, and have lived a lifetime together. While he is happy to live with his daughter, he believes things cannot remain as they are. She has to think of her future. Hitomiko does accounting at a small publishing company. She has completely not interest in marriage and is satisfied with her current peaceful life with her father. One day, Hitomiko’s colleague Okuzumi (Masuno Hidetomo) suddenly proposes to her. He has recently divorced his wife and wants to marry Hitomiko whom he has liked for a long time. That night, Keitaro is brought to the hospital with food poisoning and has to remain in hospital. Hitomiko returns home alone and soon suffers from acute anxiety.

Story: Former pro boxer Aoki Sousuke (Yakusho Koji) runs a boxing gym as he focuses his efforts on sending his 27-year daughter Makoto (Mitsushima Hikari) to the boxing olympics. Father and daughter have been following the goal of winning the gold medal at the olympics with a singleness of purpose since she was small. Once Makoto became an adult and fell in love, Sousuke would interfere with everything. Although Makoto rebels against her father, she has given up the pleasures of youth and being an ordinary girl, and trains diligently. Makoto’s mother Sachiko (Asada Miyoko) lives apart from them, but worries about her daughter and hopes she will stop boxing. Sousuke has a girlfriend, Takashiro Arisa (Yamamoto Mizuki), who is younger than Makoto, and keeps this a secret from his daughter. However, on the day before the trials, Makoto comes back home to the gym from training camp and her father is not in. Sensing something amiss, she goes in search of Sousuke and discovers Arisa’s existence. When she questions her father, he says he has even promised marriage to Arisa. Story: 70-year-old Koizumi Kinjiro (Nishida Toshiyuki), the president of the metal processing company Izukin, left his hometown of Toyama for Tokyo at the age of 16 and built up the company in one generation. A party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Izukin’s founding is coming up and Kinjiro is absorbed in preparations. As the person initiating the plan and proceedings, he is fully occupied practicing his speech and checking the guest list. It will be the big stage for him to showcase the hardships he overcame and the success he accomplished in his lifetime. However, all the programmes that Kinjiro had thought of, have been removed from the timetable of proceedings by Kinichi (Mitsuishi Ken), his eldest son and managing director, and Ippei (Nashimoto Kenjiro), his son-in-law and executive director, and the screening of a documentary made by Minami Hiroshi (Osugi Ren), Kinjiro’s classmate from Toyama, has also been cut. An angry Kinjiro says he is cancelling the party and vanishes. His worried wife Akiko (Yuki Saori) puts in call to someone who may have a clue, but there is no news of Kinjiro. Episode 4: Haha no Himitsu

Story: Asakura Kenzo (Watase Tsunehiko) and Shinsuke (Nakamura Kankuro) are a father-son pair who have lived with ill feelings for a long time. Shinsuke, an auditor turned organic vegetable farmer, has not heard from his father since the death of his mother (Kanno Misuzu). One day, Kenzo suddenly invites Shinsuke to make a pilgrimage around temples in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture which issue amulets, and Shinsuke is bewildered. He has not the slightest idea what has made his father, with whom he has been estranged for all this time, say this. In the first place, Kenzo, an anti-establishment activist, had participated in student movements from his earlier years. Even after that, he was more passionate about social change than his own family. Shinsuke had rebelled against his father for neglecting his mother and became obsessed with his own family’s happiness. A gulf also sprang up between Kenzo and his wife Yukie and this was not bridged until Yukie’s death. With her passing, Kenzo sold off the house they had been living in and started a business in Shikoku while Shinsuke did not meet his father. Given a push by his wife Kanako (Tomosaka Rie), Shinsuke decides to set out on the journey with Kenzo, but does not know what he should say. Story: Marui Mifuyu (Horikita Maki) is a straight-talking police officer whose father Tadashi (Endo Kenichi) is an actor specialising in bad guy roles. Tadashi takes pride in his profession and puts his all into every role. She has been called Dobuko by friends since elementary school because of her father’s successful role as ‘Dobu Nezumi’. One day, Mifuyu’s childfriend and fellow police officer Sasaki Masaru (Mizobata Junpei) suddenly declares that he is breaking off their friendship. He has been told by his jealous fiancee Shizuka (Tanimura Mitsuki) not to be friends with Mifuyu or to let her attend their wedding ceremony. Several days later, Tadashi summons Masaru from the police precinct behind his daughter’s back. His purpose is to object to Masaru’s one-sided talk about breaking up. Mifuyu learns about this and is indignant. She accuses her father of meddling that he should not have done. However, on the way back home, Tadashi who had been playing with a child suddenly collapses. Thinking that her father is putting on an act like always, Mifuyu ignores him. Story: Yoshizaki Norihisa’s (Kunimura Jun) wife died of illness four years ago. After he retired from the company he worked for, he found another job although his dissatisfaction with work has been piling up. Yoshizaki’s only daughter, Sugimoto Nanami (Ono Machiko), has already left home and works for a credit union. She has gone through life doing her father’s bidding and only marriage to struggling actor Daigo (Kiritani Kenta) was her own decision. That said, Nanami has been supporting the household finances because Daigo moves from one part-time job to another, and she is starting to feel stuck in her marriage. At the memorial service for his late wife, Yoshizaki meets Nanami again after a long while. He tells his daughter that he has resigned from his present company. She is astounded and wants to know what he will do in the future. However, he declares “searching for a marriage partner” as if he had just thought of it. On the other hand, Yoshizaki senses that things are strained between Nanami and Daigo, and questions her, but she dodges the issue. Even so, Yoshizaki worries about her life. Story: Togawa Yusuke (Higashide Masahiro) worked at a company but resigned for some reason and now works part-time at a convenience store. Late one night, a robber shows up at the store. The middle-aged woman (Shibata Rie) wears a mask and thrusts a kitchen knife at him. However, she loses her nerve about the robbery and is unable to order Yusuke to take out the money. Seeing this, Takamura Koji (Watanabe Ken), the only customer in the store calls the police, but Yusuke makes the woman promise not to do this again and lets her go free. A short while later, Yusuke is called over by Koji. Koji praises Yusuke for his actions at the convenience store and wants to talk at length. Yusuke wonders if this is all, but learns that Koji was not at the convenience store by coincidence. Koji is a shoemaker who crafts custom-made shoes by himself from the wood pattern to the stitching. He had been a bachelor all this while until he was persuaded to meet Yusuke’s mother Yasuko (Yo Kimiko) as a prospective marriage partner. He fell in love at first sight with her but was rejected all too soon. He could not come to terms with the situation and visited the convenience store in an attempt to take a look at her son.
