Story
Set in a nook of a shopping district, the small restaurant which people call Shinya Shokudo only opens late at night from midnight to seven in the morning. Its menu consists of just pork and vegetable miso soup set, beer, sake and shochu. However, the customers still come for the interactions and the owner’s willingness to cook whatever dish they request, if he is able to. On this night, Kosuzu-san, Tadashi-san and other regulars are having animated conversations at the restaurant when Kashima Misao, a singer who lost her husband 8 years ago, comes for the first time in a while. She breaks down in tears after eating the owner’s minced cutlet which her husband loved. Misao’s husband was also her partner at work. “Don’t Say A Word”, a song that he wrote, remains Misao’s signature piece in people’s hearts even now. However, Misao has not been able to sing in front of people ever since her husband’s death and confines herself at home. Meanwhile, the wife of a regular customer, the food critic Toyama, is warded in hospital. It is her wish to hear Misao’s “Don’t Say A Word”. Toyama beseeches Misao to sing again for the sake of his wife … …
