Synopsis: Numata Ichiro, the chief editor of a publishing company, is brought to a hospital unconscious. His daughter Ai (Goriki Ayame) rushes over in a panic, but thankfully, he escapes death. This is the result of three consecutive days of working through the night compounded by the ingestion of large doses of medicine and alcohol. The hospital’s director, Asashima Kenichiro (Haba Yuichi), and head nurse, Amemiya Junnko (Toyama Kyoko), who treated Numata, are summoned by Asashima’s wife, Yoko (Yokoyama Megumi). She is the chairwoman of the hospital. Yoko questions them about rumours within the hospital of their special relationship, as well as Junko’s special relationship with Horimura Yasuharu (Daimon Hiroaki), the head of the pharmacy services unit, too. She asks if this is also the reason why Horimura has been absent without leave. But right after that, Horimura’s dead body is discovered in a wooded area. The investigation proceeds along the line of suicide. Only detective Kirishima Eiji (Jinnai Takanori) of Josai Police Precinct suspects murder. Seeing the body of her dead husband, Midori (Fujimoto Eriko) reveals that Horimura had said, “It’s painfully agonising to be in that hospital.” Suicide is more likely, but Kirishima instructs his subordinate, Isobe Tadayuki (Ashida Shotaro), to send the body for an autopsy. Muraki Takatoshi (Shishido Kai), the head of the Criminal Affairs Division, gives Kirishima candid advice about his actions. The next day, Kenichiro and Junko are absent from the hospital without leave. They cannot be contacted. Could the two of them have run off together? Yoko works herself up into a frenzy. Kasai Mitsuo (Sasano Takashi), a dedicated office manager since the time of the previous hospital director, pacifies her that they will be back soon. On the other hand, Horimura’s death starts to spread within the hospital with Kirishima’s appearance at the hospital for an investigation. This is a hot topic among the hospital patients, Kaneko Kyota (Okada Yoshinori), Ihara Ayako (Inoue Harumi), Katsumata Koji (Musaka Naomasa) and others as well as a helper at the hospital ward, Kawahara Tamiko (Katase Rino). Speculation is rife that Kenichiro and Junko killed Horimura, who is also rumoured to have stalked Junko, and plotted to flee. Even gossip about revenge by the family of a patient who died one and a half years ago due to medical malpractice comes up. A mood of disquiet swirls about the hospital. And Numata who has been watching the actions of people in the hospital with keen eyes and chasing after the truth, also has some dirty secrets … …
