Story
A wedding is said to be a minefield which ruins a woman’s good mood with 75% of couples fighting over the ceremony and preparations. University student Majima Ai is a part-timer working at a wedding hall. She has chosen to work at this place in order to gather data for the graduation thesis she is writing on the theme “Ways to restore a woman’s good humour because male and female brains are different”. On her first day, she is put in charge of a couple’s wedding ceremony together with Aoyagi Seiji, a passionate wedding planner who has been made her superior. Ai and Aoyagi drop by the waiting room with 15 minutes to spare before the new bride and groom enter the hall and immediately sense trouble brewing between the couple Kitazawa Mari and Yu. Only Ai notices that Mari is born with a sullen attitude. Meanwhile, an incident happens. Mari’s wedding dress is stained by wine. Aoyagi and Yu hurry to find an alternative dress for her to make it in time for the ceremony. However, Mari simply nods and says, “I’m fine with this. If this is not it …” As it’s well past the time to start, Yu who does not understand the reason for her fixation with the stained dress, unthinkingly raises his voice. Then the worst words come from Mari, “I’m not getting married!” Yu put her in a bad mood. At this rate, not only will the reception be in jeopardy, so will the wedding itself. Yu is at a complete loss as to what to do while Aoyagi is desperate. Then Ai speaks up, “What she wants is not a solution but empathy.” Will the reception take place without a hitch? Ai solves all sorts of problems between men and women with the latest neuroscience. Although she starts off dealing with issues in a business-like manner to gather data, her feelings gradually begin to change … …

Story
Yukimaru Hanako is a rookie reporter with HHTV Hokaido, a local television station in Sapporo. She has made a string of blunders since she joined and keeps causing trouble to the people around her. In a debut battle with fellow presenters from the same batch, Hanako’s news story is just barely completed in time for the start of broadcast, and is also covered with an unbelievable number of misspelt characters. It’s an almost disastrous broadcast incident. Yamane Hajime, who joined the station at the same time and was assigned to the news department, always gets entangled in the uproar she causes and is also fed up with her repeated slip ups. However, Hanako is recruited for the station’s mysterious “fool” segment. Although Hanako is a troublemaker, strangely enough, she creates scoops or touching, dramatic scenes. A weather forecaster is enlightened by a word from her. An arson suspect who is on the run shows up where she has gone. Even Kanbara Masayoshi, a charismatic agricultural engineer who stays away from the media, as well as Katori, the information chief from HHTV’s rival network Higuma TV who constantly wins hands down in the ratings and typically pays no attention to HHTV, ends up getting taken by Hanako’s “storm” before they even realise it.

Synopsis: One day, a historical film studio in Kyoto receives a request from NHK which wants to make a new programme using the most advanced technology. Tadokoro Shinnosuke (Emoto Tasuku) is sent by NHK together with a pile of high-tech equipment. He grew up abroad but is a huge fan of historical dramas. When Tadokoro gets there, he says that he wants to dramatise the Ikedaya incident, which was a raid launched by the Shinsengumi against Imperial loyalists gathered at an inn called Ikedaya in Kyoto during the twilight years of the Tokugawa shogunate. This flabbergasts the people involved in drama production at the film studio. It can be a headache to use popular actors on a high-tech set where all sorts of problems are expected. So the head of the studio selects Murata Shigeo, otherwise known as Shige-chan (Uchino Masaaki), an actor of small parts who specialises in getting killed. He is supposed to film a punishing action scene filled with new technology. However, even though Shige-chan is stellar in choreographed sword battles, there is a reason why he has not gained much popularity. Furthermore, there are only elderly staff (Honda Hirotaro) handling the filming and they have no experience with technology. A series of problems occur and the climax they reach after overcoming difficulties is an unprecedented attempt at a 360° one-cut scene involving the world’s most advanced high speed camera and wire action for a scene where Shige-chan will fall down the stairs at Ikedaya. Will Shige-chan and the crew be able to surmount the high-tech challenges?

Story
The dead body of a woman is discovered in an apartment in Kokubunji, Tokyo. It has been eaten up by a number of cats until it is beyond recognition. Although the case is treated as one of the many solitary deaths, detective Okunuki Ayano finds it strange that the cats seem like pets but have not been toilet trained. She finds the name Suzuki Yoko in a passbook picked up from a goldfish bowl and traces her life. Meanwhile, Kokubunji Police Precinct’s crime squad is investigating the brutal murder of Kamishiro Takeshi who heads the nonprofit organisation Kind Help. There is no connection between the two cases. However, a woman called Suzuki Yoko soon emerges. Yoko was an ordinary woman who grew up in a typical family. Because of that normality, her younger brother Jun was bright in comparison and their mother Taeko doted on him. Yoko secretly felt forlorn that she was not loved by her mother, and she concealed that loneliness as she worked as an office lady. However, her life took a turn for the worse after her father, who was in debt, disappeared one day. Unfortunate incidents stacked up. Yoko was steadily driven into a corner and her life went into a downward spiral. Synopsis: Tokugawa Yoshimune (Osawa Takao), the eighth Tokugawa shogun, instituted the Kyoho Reforms aimed at rebuilding the government’s finances. He is called the ancestor who restored the Tokugawa family and is also well-known as the “wild shogun”. Born the fourth son of Tokugawa Mitsusada, who was the second feudal lord of Kii Province, Yoshimune hailed from one of the three branches of the Tokugawa family, and was a great grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Following the death of his father and elder brothers, he became lord of Kii. He did everything he could to turn around the finances of the province and achieved results. Then the death of the young seventh shogun, Tokugawa Ietsugu, saw the male bloodline since the second shogun Hidetada Yoshimune come to a sudden end. For the first time, a member of a branch family was adopted by the main branch and became the eighth shogun. However, Yoshimune’s succession as shogun was not entirely through his own might, but the machinations of the women of the inner palace including Teneiin (Suzuki Honami), the legal wife of Ienobu, and Gekkouin (Koike Eiko), Ietsugu’s biological mother. Behind this man who became one of the greatest Tokugawa shoguns in history was his concubine Kume (Kimura Fumino) who was his pillar of emotional support. Yoshimune lost his sickly legal wife Masako who hailed from the main Tokugawa family. After that, he took Kume, the daughter of a low-ranking samurai of Kii, who served his mother Joenin (Matsuzaka Keiko), as his concubine. He loved her deeply for her simple and gentle nature. Yoshimune had children with three concubines who passed away. Kume loved them as if they were her own and believed she would live happily together with Yoshimune and Joenin forever. However, the decree from Edo Castle to put Yoshimune forward to be the eighth shogun completely changed Kume’s ordinary but happy life. She had to give up the life she was accustomed to in Kii and move to the inner palace of Edo Castle. Although she felt a touch of anxiety, she gave Yoshimune a push, thinking that it would be a waste for a man of his ability to just be the feudal lord of a domain. After the decision was made, Kume naively looks forward to the splendid images painted on the sliding screen doors and household furnishings of Edo Castle. However, Teneiin and Gekkouin wage a battle for power on all fronts, and the inner palace where 1,000 beautifully dressed women go head-to-head in their attempt to seduce Yoshimune, shatters Kume’s naivety. Will she be able to protect Yoshimune and their three children from the intrigues of the inner palace?!

Synopsis: One spring day, an elderly woman (Yoshiyuki Kazuko) who has been confined to her hospital bed, summons her four grandchildren including Emi (Iitoyo Marie) and Shinichi (Takada Sho) and starts talking to them about her parents and siblings. The family she grew up in 70 years ago was quite unlike any other family. Back in 1937 in Osaka, Suzuki Juzaburo (Inohara Yoshihiko) was an associate professor at Osaka University of Science and a botanist. Juzaburo and his cheerful, gentle wife of 10 years, Seiko (Ueto Aya), were not blessed with children. However, he accepted this and the couple got along well. Nevertheless, Seiko’s desire to become a mother did not go away. A farewell party for Kazuya (Shirasu Jin), the son of Juzaburo’s elder sister, Osawa Noriko (Matobu Sei), who was being posted to Manchuria, reinforced her strong desire to have children. Several days later, Seiko saw children playing in the garden of an orphanage run by Mamiya Kimiko (Aso Yumi) and discussed the adoption of orphans with Juzaburo. Although he initially expressed a lack of confidence in raising children, her eagerness overwhelmed him and they adopted Kota as their child. While Seiko treated Kota kindly, Juzaburo remained awkward but gradually learned to scold and praise the boy, and grow as a father. From someone who lived only for research, Juzaburo found a new purpose in life and his world completely changed. He only had to laugh for Kota to laugh. This quiet man who hardly expressed his feelings, smiled more and more. And then one day, he mumbled that maybe their son would be happy if he had siblings. Seiko responded that they could get that done quickly. Six years later, the Suzukis had become a big family with five children, Kota (Watanabe Ao), Setsuko (Ito Shiho), Kensaku (Ishizawa Shuto), Toranosuke (Harada Keita) and Tomeko (Takenoya Saki). Before long, Juzaburo’s research assistant Yoshida Shiro (Ryusei Ryo) received draft papers and the Pacific War also affected Juzaburo’s surroundings. Life for the Suzukis became increasingly difficult. Even so, Juzaburo and Seiko kept on smiling and so did their children. However, the war steadily cast a shadow on the family’s future … …

Synopsis: During Halloween in October 2018, the streets of Shibuya in Tokyo are full of young people in masquerade. A middle-aged man is found dead in a place behind the subway station where no one will notice. An investigation task force is set up in Shibuya Nishi Police Precinct with detective Imanishi Eitaro (Higashiyama Noriyuki) also part of the team. The face and palms of the dead man have been smashed, and he remains unidentified. The police manage to obtain an eyewitness account from a youth in a bloodstained white shirt near the crime scene. However, is the youth the murderer or simply someone in masquerade? In addition, there is an eyewitness report of two men on a deserted street leading to the crime scene. One of them is presumed to be the victim while other young man is seen as a likely suspect but he cannot be clearly identified because it was dark. However, according to the eyewitness, the victim spoke with an accent from the Tohoku region and it is revealed that he said “Kameda hasn’t changed one bit” during the conversation. Imanishi teams up with the young detective Yoshimura Hiroshi (Nomura Shuhei) and they head to the vicinity of the crime scene to investigate. But they are unable to obtain clues on “Kameda”. Meanwhile, the talented composer Waga Eiryo (Nakajima Kento) who has started gaining public attention, announced his first concert after his return to Japan and performs a new piece titled Destiny. He refuses to talk about his past and private life even when he gives interviews. Waga was the culprit in the case that took place in Shibuya last night. He tells himself that his plan was perfect and has a good time with his fiancee Tadokoro Sachiko (Sakurai Hinako) and her father Shigeki (Kitaoji Kinya) who is currently a minister. On the night of the murder, Waga had actually visited his lover Naruse Rieko (Tsuchiya Tao) who lives in an apartment near the crime scene, and she had given him shelter. Just as the investigation looks like it will hit a dead end, Imanishi finds the fixation on Tohoku odd and visits a linguistic scholar to ask about dialects. That is how he learns that a part of the Izumo region has an accent that is similar to Tohoku too. Furthermore, it also has a place with the name Kamedake. Imanishi achieves a breakthrough after Shimane Prefectural Police identify the victim as a missing man called Miki Kenichi (Takashima Masanobu). He and Yoshimura go around the crime scene asking about Miki. Miki worked at an orphanage and volunteered in various activities. All the people who knew Miki told them that he was like Buddha and not a single person hated him. Why was such a good man killed? The investigation stalls yet again. However, Imanishi discovers a newspaper column written about a woman who scattered confetti from a train window, and he instinctively feels that this could be the criminal’s shirt. He hunts for the place where this confetti was scattered and finds scraps of it. It is soon established that the fabric has blood stains and the blood matches that of the victim’s. The woman is a bartender in Ginza and Waga’s lover Rieko. Waga learns that the police is closing in and grows desperate as he focuses on completing his new piece like a man possessed. Imanishi continues to trace Miki’s movements and discovers a connection between Waga and Miki. Then he stumbles upon the existence of Waga’s father Motoura Chiyokichi (Emoto Akira) … …
