Synopsis: In a small town called Nakashibetsu in Hokkaido, Kazami Tamiko (Tokiwa Takako) raises her son Takeshi (Sato Yutaro) as she runs a free-range diary farm with her father-in-law Yoshio (Nakahara Takeo). After her husband Seiji died in a traffic accident a few years ago, she scaled back the farm which was Seiji’s passion, and carried on against opposition from the people around her. The family of three has managed to make a living. Although they were deeply in deficit last year, they may stay out of the red this year. However, Tamiko faces a critical situation. Her father-in-law’s chronic illness is worsening and she has to do all the labour. One evening in spring, they are hit by a heavy storm. Yoshio who had gone out for his relative’s funeral service, returns soaking wet. It seems that he has given a ride to a male stranger whose motorbike broke down on the road. He tells a doubtful Tamiko to let the man stay in the barn tonight. A big man (Abe Hiroshi) shows up drenched at the front door. It is a fine morning the next day when Tamiko heads out to the cattle shed after finishing the housework. She sees the man looking after the cows with an experienced hand and impulsively asks him to work at the farm. Despite their fateful encounter, the taciturn man who had been touring Hokkaido on his motorbike, has a secret that he cannot tell anyone … …
