Synopsis: Usui Koichi (Santamaria Yusuke) has patched things up with his wife Yoshiko (Konno Mahiru) and gone back to living with their daughter Haruna (Hata Mei). With Yoshiko’s consent, he officially returns to the First Investigative Division’s Fifth Section and lightly promises to come back early and make Haruna’s favourite omelette rice. However, he receives a phone call from his boss Suzuki Shigeru (Sano Shiro) to convene the team. A manager at a real estate company has been stabbed to death and a high school teacher has been beaten to death with a metal bat at a different location. In addition, a police officer and a junior high school student have committed suicide. These two murders and two suicides occurred almost at the same time. The head of the First Investigative Division (Ishimaru Kenjiro) has misgivings about the four cases and orders the Fifth Section to determine whether there is something in common. Although there is no reason to suspect foul play in the two suicides, Usui is bothered that no suicide notes were left behind. While people who commit suicide do not always leave notes, that is definitely a common point. Blood-stained clothes and a knife are found in the apartment of Sahara, a suspect in the manager’s murder. Charges will most certainly be filed against him, but questions remain. When Usui and Takagi Ryuichi (Takito Kenichi) interrogate him, he admits a motive to murder the manager because he was harassed to the point that he resigned. However, he does not remember killing the man with his own hands. He drifted to sleep at home and when he woke up he had blood-stained clothes on … … Shinomiya Azusa (Shida Mirai) who is in charge of psychological investigations at the National Research Institute of Police Science, comes to the Fifth Section all of a sudden. Usui is surprised but when he gets in touch with Fujimori Sae (Aibu Saki), Azusa’s senior who had investigated a series of random attacks with him, he learns that three sex-related crimes occurred at the same time as the four cases. Three suspects gave statements similar to Sahara – they have fuzzy memories of the time of the crimes. After hearing Azusa’s explanation, Usui is convinced that it is not a coincidence that the seven cases happened at almost the same time. Because Azusa is the type who speaks her mind and is difficult to manage, Suzuki and Takagi foist her on Usui. Together with Usui, Azusa questions Sahara and Shirai who killed the teacher, and affirms that they were not lying in their statements. After analysing the computers of the police office and junior high school student who committed suicide, Usui and Azusa determine that all seven of the people involved had been going to Lamer Mental Clinic. They visit the clinic for psychosomatic medicine to question the clinic’s director Mizusawa Hitomi (Koyuki). Hitomi acknowledges that the seven people are her clients and Azusa presses her about the possibility of psychologically controlling her clients. Hitomi flatly denies having a hand in the cases and sends them away. She does not have the ability to psychologically manipulate people and make them kill or commit suicide against their will through hypnosis. However, Sae has brought information about several cases that the clinic’s clients had caused in the past. Is Hitomi and the clinic producing criminals? If that is the case, what is her motive?
