Story
Ishikawa Ango, a hotshot detective, has been assigned to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division in an unprecedented promotion. He is too wrapped up in investigations that he has sacrificed his entire private life. He leads a vacuous life in which he finds the meaning of his existence only at murder crime scenes. He is so accustomed to his job that he has become insensitive to a person’s death. One day, a former police officer is gunned down. Ishikawa rushes to the crime scene but is shot in the head by the criminal who has hidden in the vicinity. As he hovers between life and death, the question “Where does a person go if he dies?” swirls around in his half-conscious mind. And the first feeling that wells up in him is that he does not want to die. This strong desire brings about a miracle. Ishikawa’s vitals stopped for a moment, but he is resuscitated and the bullet is left inside his brain. Although there has been no change to his unpredictable condition, Ishikawa returns to detective work after three months. At this moment, a brutal murder of a family takes place. Arriving at the house where the crime occurred, Ishikawa is seized by a bout of lightheadedness and a boy with what seems to be a tearful face appears before his eyes. He sees a family photo and realises that this boy who is visible only to him, was killed with his parents. Ishikawa is bewildered but as the investigation progresses, he is forced to accept that he can communicate with the dead. However, he can only do so until the dead body is cremated. Guided by the voices of the dead, he soon learns truths about cases that no one knows. Ishikawa scrambles to solve cases by the time limit and would even set foot in the “realm of gods” in order to avenge the victims.
